10 Best Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Songs

10. 'Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!' - From Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxWS1ufr5xI&list=PLTF8xJ_pnKgO47qKlequyfVtUW_0c3mj6 Grinderman, was a massive sabbatical for Nick Cave as it was an exercise in bringing the guitar to the forefront of his songwriting. While the Bad Seeds had always been an ensemble piece, Grinderman was stripped back and angry, allowing Cave to shift his focus for Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! While it is certainly inspired by Grinderman's stripped back style, the eponymous track from the Bad Seeds' 15th studio album is one that has more of an embrace of their lives rather than the angry defiance that defined Grinderman. It's a song that talks about the trials of Larry - raised from the dead and brought to modern America where he indulges in a life of hedonism and lust - only to eventually find himself being chewed up and spat out even though "He didn't ask to be raised up from the tomb/ I mean, no one ever actually asked him to forsake his dreams". The music chugs along on a wonderfully catchy bluesy groove that you can't blame the members of the Bad Seeds for dancing around badly to (see the video clip) while providing the perfect platform for Cave to tell his tale.
