10 Deep-Cut Alice Cooper Songs Every Rock Fan Should Check Out

5. Gutter Cats Vs The Jets

It's no secret that the original Alice Cooper band was heavily inspired by both cinema and musical theatre. One only had to look at their out-there style and theatrical stage show to see that. Everything from the grotesque make-up to the androgynous costumes had its basis in something from the affiliated arts and those with a keen eye were quick to latch onto them.

And nowhere was the band's love of show tunes on better display than in this West Side Story-style tune about warring street gangs challenging one another to back-alley street fights. Kicking off with a truly unforgettable bass line courtesy of inimitable Dennis Dunaway, it soon segues into a jaunty little rock-and-roll number that seamlessly blends show tunes with a faint whiff of prog-rock in a way that only they could.

This is all capped off with an outright sample of West Side Story's 'Jet Song' that dials the campiness up to great new heights, but never loses sight of its inherent fury. It all builds to a crescendo that bleeds directly into the album's next track 'Street Fight', a bass-heavy soundscape that sees the Cooper band furiously battling the other gang before being apprehended by the police.
