10 Legendary Rock Albums That Were Produced Terribly
2. Be Here Now - Oasis
There's something to be said for songs that don't need a ton of overdubs to really win you over. For all of the orchestrations that have gone on in rock and roll, the best songs sometimes only need a single guitar and a voice to really get their point across. Because if you end up going to far in the other direction, you go from songs with potential to some of the most unlistenable songs in your entire career.
Which is strange considering that Be Here Now is far from a bad Oasis project on the surface. When you hear songs like Stand By Me or I Hope I Think I Know, these are still the same lads from Manchester with a much more abrasive sound. In fact, maybe a little too abrasive. Once the band got down to business creating their follow up to Morning Glory, they were determined to make something larger than life, which meant filling up every single track possible on every one of these songs.
While that idea might sound perfect for the Gallaghers on paper, it makes for a chore to listen to in one sitting, with all of the backing tracks virtually turning into a cacophony of noise whenever you hear it. Even Noel Gallagher (who does NOT mince words) has fessed up to it not sounding too great, saying the band reached a bit too far than they probably should have. Oasis may have been on top of the world, but this is what happens when you have a misguided vision and a mountain of cocaine to work with.
