10 Overshadowed Albums By Famous Musicians

7. The Rolling Stones - Tattoo You

'Exile On Main Street', 'Sticky Fingers', 'Let It Bleed', 'Some Girls'; these are the staples of The Rolling Stones' catalogue which are clung onto by fans across the world for their earth-shattering sound and cavalcade of classic tracks that helped them achieve the status of the coolest band this planet has ever seen.

In between their heyday and now , it's fair to say that the Stones have been gripped by a lull that refuses to loosen its grasp. Album after album would pass by in the 80's without much to write home about, with records such as 'Undercover', 'Steel Wheels' and 'Dirty Work' failing to recapture the spirit that made their previous studio albums so unmissable.

However, this is genuinely surprising when looked back in retrospect considering the start of the decade looked so promising. Following the moderate success of 'Emotional Rescue' in 1980, the Mick Jagger led band would waste little time dithering and headed straight back into the studio to lay down 'Tattoo You', an album that is often lost amid the wasteland of the 80's but would ultimately become the last consistently great record that they've ever made.

It's hard to imagine a better opening salvo in a record than the classic Stones strut of 'Start Me Up' but the outstanding material by no means ends there. The sultry instrumentation of 'Slave' is the band at their decadent best with Jagger's trademark howl firing on all cylinders and the sounds of 'Neighbours', 'Tops', 'Hang Fire' and 'Little T&A' forced the band to stretch themselves in a way that they haven't deemed necessary for many years.
