10 Perfect Albums That Defined The 2000s
9. Discovery - Daft Punk
When Daft Punk first got started back on Homework, no one was really concerned with where their future was going to go. Although songs like Around the World absolutely killed it on the dance floor, they were just your traditional club bangers without any care for an actual structure of an album. Once you get some experience under your belt, you tend to get a little nostalgic, and that's where Discovery was born.
In the midst of the dance music scene at the time, Daft Punk created an album that worked as an amalgamation of all the styles of music they loved as kids, even going so far as to bring in their hero Todd Edwards to sing the hook on Face to Face. As you get past the singles though, there's a certain spirit on this album that's different from every other Daft Punk release, almost rooted in something otherworldly.
It's also no surprise that this entire album got turned into a soundtrack to an anime movie with an alien rock band as its main stars. Because when you think of a song like Aerodynamic, the only ones who can properly deliver a guitar solo like that would be someone from the other side of the galaxy. Daft Punk were already a great group at this point, but this is where we learned that there was a lot more going on underneath those robot helmets than any of us realized.
