10 Perfect Debut Rock Albums Of The 90s

9. Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind

When the '90s sound really started to show itself, it wasn't really all that happy. If you were to look at the songs off of Alice in Chains records or even from the first handful of Pearl Jam singles, there's a lot of bleak songs about how dangerous and painful the world can be. Once grunge start to die though, things appeared to be looking up with Third Eye Blind's self titled record.

Granted, the subject matter hadn't really changed all that much, considering a song like Jumper was a response to someone attempting suicide and Semi Charmed Life being about the wonders of getting high out of your mind on crystal meth. The main difference here though is in the presentation. Compared to the kind of sludgy riffs of grunge, Stephen Jenkins practically gives you a crash course in power pop, with songs that are designed to be played on the radio from the minute that you hear them.

And then, things seemed to go quiet once the next decade started. As the '90s drew to a close, people started to write off Third Eye Blind as a relic of the alternative movement and something that we should just leave in the past. If you have your nostalgia glasses on though, the band deserves to be so much more than a borderline one hit wonder band.
