10 Perfect Rock Songs That Musicians Hate
5. Pinkerton - Weezer
It takes a lot for an artist to turn their back on an entire album. In this case, it's not that you don't like a certain song...you think that an entire body of work that has your name on it was a complete waste of time. It also stings when it's the album that has the most heart on its sleeve.
After being unsure of where to take Weezer after their blue debut blew up, Rivers Cuomo decided to make something a lot more abrasive for the followup, which almost seemed designed to alienate some of his fans. Complete with a more caustic rock sound, Pinkerton went from being one of the most hated records of the '90s to actually flipping all the way back around to becoming one of the most celebrated albums in Weezer's entire catalog. High praise...as long as you're not Rivers.
Ever since the rock scene rejected this album the first time around, Rivers has been doing some soul searching and has started to reevaluate the lyrics on the record. Up until the past few years, Rivers has likened the experience to throwing up in front of your friends and calling the record hideous in retrospect. This album may have sounded like Rivers turning into a broken man, but it's exactly those imperfections that make the record so powerful.
