10 Rarest Albums In Existence

10. Bob Dylan – ‘The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan’ - $35000

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
Columbia

This folk/blues gem is regarded as one of the greatest records of all time, propelling Dylan with songs like ‘Don't Think Twice, It's All Right’ to critical and commercial success.

The original Freewheelin’ record is a rarity for collectors and connoisseurs. The reason being, for still unclear reasons, just before the album’s release four songs were replaced with four newly recorded songs.

Many believe this was because television censors would not let Dylan play live one of the songs, ‘Talkin’ John Birch Blues’, on the Ed Sullivan Show (because of possible defamation against John Birch Society members) so Columbia Records pulled it from the album. Others believe the four new tracks that were recorded were simply too great to be left off the monumental record – including Dylan classics like ‘Girl From The North Country’ and ‘Masters of War’.

New records were pressed with new artwork and Columbia was quick to release that version. However in a turn of events, one pressing plant didn’t get the heads up they were being replaced so a small number of the original copies got made and shipped. Few of the originals with the four withdrawn songs have been revealed over the years. One of them that had though sold for $35000.

If you ever come across this record in a charity shop, desperately look for a cover that has a ‘Stereo/360° Sound’ logo and a sticker that reads ‘Singing His Sensational Hit, Blowin' in the Wind’. Because if you do, you’ll made a considerate profit.
