10 Worst Burnouts In Rock History
3. Oasis - Be Here Now
The back half of the '90s rock scene was practically dominated by Oasis. After Nirvana left the mantle of alternative rock open midway through the decade, the Gallagher Brothers managed to make some of the most awe-inspiring rock and roll ever made across albums like Definitely Maybe and What's the Story Morning Glory?. Then again, when you're at that high of a peak, there's only one place to go afterwards.
Going into the production for Be Here Now, most of Noel Gallagher's songs were practically just drafts of tunes that didn't make the cut on the previous albums. It also doesn't help that everyone was out of their mind on cocaine throughout the making of the record. Instead of the amazing shots of life you got from tracks like Some Might Say, these songs ended up ballooning into massive rock and roll exercises, with no song being shorter than 5 minutes.
On the other hand, the Oasis that we know is still in here, with songs like Don't Go Away and It's Gettin Better Man still possessing that same Britpop spirit. That wasn't enough to win over the rock world though, as Be Here Now's critical acclaim diminished within months of its release, with even the Gallaghers themselves owning up to the scattered sound of the record. Rather than the triumphant final bow they deserved, Be Here Now is the sound the Britpop movement makes when it's dying.
