Megadeth, as innovators in the genre, sit comfortably at the top of the pile of thrash metal artists. Though the band has experienced all the turmoil we associate with rock and roll, they have, save for a two year break from 2002 to 2004, been active since 1983.
In December 2021, frontman Dave Mustaine announced that Megadeth's sixteenth studio album was "super-close" to being released promising fans "pretty soon it's gonna be in your hands."
However, the band' schedule took a detour when long time bassist David Ellefson was accused on grooming an underaged fan, which Ellefson strongly denies. After the band distanced themselves from Ellefson, he was replaced by an as of now unknown bassist and his bass tracks have been re-recorded.
Little is known about the album's content outside of a single track title (The Dogs of Chernobyl), but Mustaine maybe gave a hint to some of the album's content commenting:
“[…] the people that I know that know I’m writing a new record, […] they all go, ‘So, are you gonna write about the coronavirus?’ And I’m thinking, ‘Well, now there’s a thought…’”
