50 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Albums Of 2017

31. Power Trip – Nightmare Logic

Hardcore truly made its presence felt in 2017’s metal world, but of all the genre’s entries into this list, none came close to the sheer, unfiltered aggression of Nightmare Logic.

The sophomore album of the guttural Texan troupe Power Trip, Nightmare Logic is 32 minutes of old-school immensity that effortlessly harkens back to the moshing glory days of mid-‘80s San Francisco. Guttural choruses like “Executioner’s Tax” permeate with their yelling, punk-like gang vocals, while the riffs of “Firing Squad” pack the focus and aggression of a chainsaw. The album’s breakneck speed feels like an embittered union between Death Angel and Hatebreed; every cut from this eight-track bruiser has the potential to be a live staple, ceaseless in its desires to destroy the sound barrier.

UK fans will get to experience the vitriolic excellence of the unstoppable Power Trip on a massive scale in 2018, as the band will join British death metal titans Venom Prison and this list’s number 32 entry Code Orange on a nationwide tour with hard rock stalwarts Trivium.
