12: We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgcukR7yMBM Year of Release: 2006 Key Tracks: Old Dan Tucker, We Shall Overcome, John Henry And now for something completely different. The Boss' fourteenth studio offering replaced the E Street Band with the Sessions Band as Bruce produced an album of pure folk and Americana music, including many traditional songs and songs that exist in the public domain. As the title suggests, legendary folk singer and activist Pete Seeger was a huge influence. Seeger made many of the album's songs famous during the 50s, 60s and 70s. Bruce offers a contemporary take on the songs in what is possibly his liveliest and most out-and-out 'fun' album yet. Bruce is clearly having a ball and it's hard not to get caught up in the infectious rhythms. The Sessions Band, E Street Band violinist Soozie Tyrell, the Miami Horns, Patti Scialfa and some other local New Jersey musicians, gave the song a bigger, rockier sound than the more traditional, blander folk one that would usually accompany them. Make sure you listen to the extended 'American Land' edition for the full experience.
