6. Strangeness And Charm

"Strangeness and Charm" is a truly out there song that somehow slipped off the radar between 'Lungs' and 'Ceremonials', a version exists on the bonus discs of both, but she really should have released it as a standalone bridging single between albums. Florence can do restraint, but this is her literally throwing everything she has into a song, it sounds huge and she does a cracking rendition of a one woman orchestra. I literally can't work out how many vocals there are on this, with all sorts of weird and wonderful wailing going on in the background. The song is one of her more obscure songs lyrically, about the buzz that the chemistry and connection that love can bring, but also its peril, wonderfully articulated with the words "It's the purest element but it's so volatile, an equation heaven sent, a drug for angels" And if there is a better song that contains so many references to physics exists then I'll eat my hat.
