9. He Would Love David Lynch Or Woody Allen To Adapt One Of His Books

When asked how he felt about film adaptations of his novels, Murakami stated that he believed David Lynch (Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive) or Woody Allen (Annie Hall, Midnight In Paris) would be great directors to handle his work. Despite this, Murakami did green light an adaptation of Norwegian Wood by Vietnamese-French film-maker Tran Anh Hung. The adaption was released in 2010 and stars Ken'ichi Matsuyama as Toru Watanabe and Rinko Kikuchi as Naoko. That being said, the thought of Lynch handling one of Murakami's stranger novels like Hard-Boiled Wonderland And The End Of The World or Woody Allen helming something more minimal like South Of The Border, West Of The Sun is just too awesome to bear...
