1. The Dark Tower Series
Now, before you go crying foul, let me explain. I know The Dark Tower comprises seven novels (technically, now eight) but at least three of those novels belong on this list individually and anyway, all seven books are installments telling one, singular story. The defense rests. The Dark Tower is a culmination of Kings works. It is his thesis. Its how he views the world and those who reside in said world. Everything is connected by a force called, Ka. And Ka is a wheel. When the wheel is thrown askew by the Crimson King and his agents (most notably, the man in black) it threatens the entirety of the universe. Its up to Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger and his ka-tet to travel to the Dark Tower and defeat the Crimson King, saving the world once and for all. Thats a pretty epic logline for a story and one that takes many twists and turns along the way. A genius work that not only weaves genres and themes but settings and characters from previous King works into the narrative. Even King himself ends up a character in the story. Over the course of seven novels you will be totally absorbed into Kings universe and left to play by his standards. Story telling at its finest and one of the finest examples of a pitch perfect ending. Thats harder than you realize, especially for a long running series. Dont believe me? Ask JK Rowling. How do you sum up a series? A career? Thats what King tasked himself with and then he stuck the landing. Yet he continues to entertain. Ka is a wheel.
