10 Most Bizarre Japanese Trends

8. Ripe Tomato Hairstyle

This trend is hardly surprising given Japan's fascination with unusual fashion, however it is the level of detail involved which makes this entry interesting. Basically, it's a hairstyle made to resemble a ripe tomato. Originally invented by a hair stylist named "Hiro" at the "Trick Store" salon in Osaka, this hairstyle is so detailed that it involves dying sections of the hair green to represent the tomato stalk. This is probably the type of hairstyle that would be fun to have for one day, before self-doubt sinks in and the wearer realises they look like a retro Final Fantasy monster. Despite this, it is difficult not to appreciate the creativity involved. According to several media reports, the trend is far from widespread - it seems to be carried out by only a small number of Japanese hipsters. Trick Store salon also provide several other brain-meltingly weird hairstyles - including a ladybird style and several Final Fantasy-esque, spiky numbers which look too be far too high maintenance to ever be worth it.
