10 Bizarre Origins Of Your Favourite Cartoon Characters

4. Winnie The Pooh Character's Represent Mental Disorders

Long before Winnie the Pooh was a book, or a cartoon, the characters existed only as the teddy bears shown above. A. A. Milne's son is the famous Christopher Robin, who named the his cuddly bear Winnie after a Canadian black bear he often saw at London Zoo. "Pooh" is said to have been due to the fact Winnie's arms were so stiff in the air, that whenever a fly came and settled on his nose he had to blow it off. So, yeah, he literally is named after a lump of excrement. The cute origins of Pooh bear and friends is, as usual, made terrifyingly dark by a number of theorists: who claim that each character represents a mental illness. Piglet has a major anxiety disorder, Tigger is obviously ADHD, Eeyore is a manic depressive, Rabbit has OCD and Winnie The Pooh has an uncontrollable eating disorder. You can thank the Canadian Medical Association Journal for this upsetting observation.
