3. Punkeydoodles Corners, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Is this tiny residential area made up of mohawk-sporting individuals who are handy with a pencil? If only. An absolutely minute hamlet with a low resident count, no tourism to speak of and a frequently stolen road sign, Punkeydoodle's Corners is, essentially, just a corner, which straddles three counties in the Canadian province of Ontario. The place name has no clear origin, but some theories attribute it to a Victorian word meaning idly passing time. Others suggest it was a local German tavern owner's rendition of Yankee Doodle in the nineteenth century, erroneously pronounced by the innocent chap as 'Punkeydoodle', that led to its odd christening. Who knows. It sounds like he would have at least brought some entertainment to these deafeningly quiet Corners of Canada.
