10 Careless Mistakes That Got Serial Killers Caught

6. Albert Fish Wrote A Letter Bragging About His Crimes

Every serial killer is a bonafide monster, but child killers are inarguably the worst of the worst. Albert Fish, sometimes referred to as the Moon Maniac killer, was a sadomasochist who killed and ate nearly a dozen children.

Fish was a deeply disturbed man whose actions and interests are too grand and perverse to be summed up in a single entry. He ate his own feces and nearly 30 needles were found inserted into his groin when he was arrested — and these are tame examples compared to his many other hobbies.

In short, Albert Fish had been raping, potentially torturing and killing young children since his 20s. He claimed to have eaten many of his victims as well. Evading incarceration until age 66, there's a chance Fish has many more victims to his name.

In 1928, he abducted and murdered a ten-year-old girl. In 1934, the girl's mother received a letter that detailed how the girl was abducted, murdered, and eaten over a period of nine days. Why he wrote the damning letter — and waited six years to send it — is anyone's guess.

Although the letter was anonymous, he bluntly stated the exact date he abducted the girl after visiting the mother. Police traced the letter back to Fish and he was sentenced to death.
