Themed around DC Comics' Superman, the Ride of Steel has won several awards since its opening in 1999. Ride of Steel has had two incidents to its name. The first occurred in 1999, three days after opening, in which a passenger was thrown from the coaster train near the end of the ride. Fortunately, they only received minor injuries as a result of the accident. Things went fairly smoothly for over a decade, until tragedy befell the park in 2011. A US Army veteran named James Hackener, who had lost his legs while in Iraq, visited on the 8th of July. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_diTCrdGWMY Hackener was thrown from the Ride of Steel and fell to his death, due to the constraints not being designed to secure amputees. Park officials later confirmed that Hackener should never have been let on the ride in the first place, with the official cause listed as an operator error. The Ride of Steel was reopened two weeks later, and is still in operation today.
