10 Deeply Unusual And Unconventional Literary Heroes

8. Dexter Morgan

First Appearance: Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay Unless you've been living on Mars for the last couple years, let me explain quickly who Dexter Morgan is. Dexter is a Miami Dade Blood Splatter expert. And that is all that's interesting about him. ...unless you're privy to his mind and private life, then you may know he's killed dozens of people. Brutally too! One of the few differences between Dexter and Ted Bundy is that Dexter doesn't rape his victims. Well, that and Dexter has a code and only kills people who have committed horrible crimes. Dexter is the creation of Jeff Lindsay and appears in seven of his novels. His first novel, Darkly Dreaming Dexter was the basis for the first season of Dexter but after that they diverge in different directions. In each book, Dexter is usually one the trail of one serial killer while authorities are investigating his crimes. While he is depicted as the hero, Dexter is one of the few heroes ever created who stabs and chops up their human bodies so that no one can ever find them again.
