The death of Brandon Lee is one which has entered the halls of infamy in show business. The son of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, Brandon had followed the footsteps of his father into acting, and had begun to make a name for himself as he reached his late twenties. The movie that was supposed to catapult him into major stardom was the dark action film The Crow in 1993. Whilst the film certainly gave Lee an everlasting fame, it most definitely wasn't in the manner anybody had intended. For a scene where Lee's titular character was due to confront a series of villains, he was to be shot by one of his attackers. The revolver in question had previously been used in a different scene where, unknown to the crew, a bullet had become lodged in the chamber, and when it came to replacing the ammunition with blank rounds, the lodged and very real round remained hidden in the weapon. What ensued was that actor Michael Massee unwittingly shot Lee with a revolver which was only slightly weakened from the real thing, from a distance of 15 metres. The hidden real bullet struck Lee in the abdomen and sent the actor straight to surgery, which was unfortunately in vain as Lee succumbed to his injury. The incident become something of morbid legend, with rumours spreading that the film makers kept the actual footage in the movie; this is untrue as the character is attacked with a knife in a replacement scene, and the actual footage was destroyed after being used as evidence in court following the accident.
