10 Explanations For Those Strange Things You Do All The Time

1. Why Can't Some People Ever Remember Their Dreams?

Whether you're one of those people who remembers their dreams vividly (vividly enough to regale us all with the ins and outs of them the next day), or whether you're one of the people that interrupts these exciting tales with "I can never remember my dreams", scientists reckon they might know why.

Everybody dreams, just some people don't remember them when they wake up, so some researchers at Lyon Neuroscience Research Centre in France decided to hook high-recallers and low-recallers up to an electroencephalograph to monitor their brain activity.

They weren't so much interested in what happened when the test subjects were asleep, though, so much as when they were awake and what they found was pretty surprising.

They found that the low-recallers' brains were much less responsive to the sound of their name being called, whereas the high-recallers' brains where much more activated.

Although the research is in its early stages, they think that the high-recallers's response to sound would make them more likely to wake up in the night, which indeed they did, with most of them spending up to twice as long awake at night than the other group.

By waking just after a dream you increase your ability to remember it, as opposed to when you sleep straight through and the dream simply slips back into your subconscious.

The real thing you need to remember though, is that whether you can easily recall them or not, no one really wants to hear about your dreams.
