The Who's legendary drummer Keith Moon was famed for his self-destructive behaviour - including flushing explosives down toilets and passing out on stage due to alcohol addiction - and it was these unpredictable actions that contributed to the rockstar accidentally killing his bodyguard in 1970. On January 4, 1970, Moon was driving his Bentley while drunk outside the Red Lion Pub in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, when his car was attacked by a group of boozers leaving the inn. When Moon tried to drive away from the scene, he accidentally ran over his friend, driver and bodyguard Neil Boland, who was standing outside the pub - killing him. The coroner determined that Boland's death was an accident and Moon received an absolute discharge having previously been charged, yet the drummer never recovered from the incident mentally and supposedly endured flashback nightmares about it. Moon would later die in September 1978 after overdosing on Heminevrin - a drug intended to treat symptoms experienced by alcoholics abstaining from drinking.
