10 Haunted Houses That Have Murdered People

The Villisca axe murders is one of the most infamous unsolved murders in American history, with all six members of the Moore family (plus two house guests) found bludgeoned to death in their Iowa home. All eight victims - which included six children - had suffered severe head wounds from an axe. It's since become a tourist trap, because humans are a morbidly curious species.

One of the explanations for the initial murders was something supernatural, with any potential suspects being acquitted or never found. To this day the Moore residence is said to be haunted, which is probably why they don't down tours past sundown. Still, it was the perfect location for an amateur ghost hunter to spend the night.

A night which ended in said hunter - one Robert Laursen - stabbing himself in the chest. At 1AM ambulances rolled up to take him to hospital and treat the self-inflicted wound, with Laursen claiming he "could not ascribe a motive to his actions." Laursen was lucky; for a house that is steeped in the stories of murder and death, where the restless spirits of eight victims live, he was one of few to leave alive.
