10 Incredible Facts About The Philae Comet Landing

9. A Scientist Apologised For A Shirt He Wore During The Mission

Dr Matt Taylor, a British scientist working on the Rosetta project, apologised for his choice of shirt following an online backlash against his choice of clothing. The shirt featured a pattern made up primarily of scantily clad women. Following a broadcast interview with Dr Taylor, many took to social media, calling out the shirt as being sexist. Others claim that the shirt reinforces a stereotype that the world of science is not as open to women. Dr Taylor fought back tears as he apologised during a Google Hangout briefing. "The shirt I wore this week - I made a big mistake," stated Dr Taylor. "I offended many people, and I'm very sorry about this." While Taylor gained many critics for the shirt, others were annoyed that the story was taking away from the momentous importance of the landing itself.
