Renowned for its dual launches and propellent movements, The Blast was a guest favourite ever since its official opening on August 15th 1998. It was the world’s first inverted roller coaster to feature a linear induction motor and parts of it were enclosed inside its own man-made volcano (originally built in the late 1970s). The layout of the ride simulated the path of a volcanic eruption, complete with awesome fire effects.

There was a recorded incident on the coaster in 2006 where 15 passengers experienced a launch failure and the train rolled back slightly. The customers were stranded for more than two hours and one reportedly heard a loud pop and getting hit in the chin with flying debris. Despite this accident, Volcano continued to operate for almost a decade more.

In 2018, The Blast was in business for a few weeks before closing down due to maintenance issues. Management wanted to salvage the ride but they would have needed to completely redo it from scratch. The owners of Kings Dominion believed it was past its prime and decided to close it down for good, before having the whole ride demolished.
