10 Inventors Killed By Their Own Creations

1. Marie Curie

112Invention: The process of isolating radium Country: France Died: 1934 One of the most famous female figures in the history of science, Marie Curie is revered worldwide for her contributions to our understanding of radioactivity. Among various achievements, she discovered a technique to isolate radioactive isotopes, discovered two elements, and wrote a theory of radioactivity. Unfortunately, the dangers of radioactivity had not yet been fully realised while Curie was conducting her experiments. Throughout her career, she would carry test tubes filled with radioactive materials in her pocket, and was frequently exposed to X-rays due to equipment that was not properly shielded. Curie suffered from poor health during the later years of her life, including cataracts that rendered her almost completely blind. In 1934, Curie died of aplastic anemia, believed to have been caused by her long-term exposure to radiation. However, Marie Curie's works continue to significantly impact the modern world, and her findings have rewritten the very foundations of physics. Does your country have any inventors that died for their passion? Are there any scientific greats that we missed? Let us know your thoughts below.
