Dutch Schultz was a mobster who operated in New York City during the 1920s and 1930s. He made a large fortune for himself from organised crime and bootlegging. Schulz ran into trouble with the Mafia following two tax evasion trials. He asked the Mafia if he could kill the prosecutor in his trials in an attempt to escape conviction but they refused. Schultz ignored their order and attempted to kill the prosector anyway which led to the Mafia murdering him. Due to the investigations into his taxes, Schultz had decided to hide his fortune to keep it safe from authorities. To do this, he placed $7 million worth of cash into a specially designed watertight and airtight safe before driving it to a secret location in New York state and burying it. Schultz was killed before he could retrieve the money or pass on its location, leaving it lost and waiting to be found.
