10 Most Bizarre Literature Conspiracy Theories

10. Hunter S Thompson Was Assassinated By The CIA...

Let€™s kick off our list with a firm conspiracy theorist favourite, the fake suicide. Since conspiracy theories became so ubiquitous, it has become the norm to attribute the death of any celebrity or other public figure to that of shadowy government figures. Celebrity suicides in particular are a breeding ground for conspiracy theories. Fake suicides are a known MO amongst secret services, so the link is an obvious one for fans struggling for acceptance. But why would the CIA be interested in killing Hunter S Thompson? 9/11, of course. The theory goes that Thompson had stumbled across evidence linking American government involvement in the World Trade Centre disaster, and so he had to be killed before bringing the evidence to light - albeit not before leaving cryptic clues that can be construed by conspiracy theorists as a foreshadowing of his murder. www.thompsonmurder.com provides all of the necessary "evidence" of the apparent assassination, highlighting how the man who had throughout his life talked about suicide would have no reason to ever kill himself, as well as how the suicide note isn€™t a suicide note at all, and all the other apparent discrepancies in the case. Hunter S Thompson is hardly the first well known figure to express doubts over the official story of 9/11. So if the CIA saw fit to suicide Thompson, perhaps we should expect numerous more celebrity suicides in the near future.
