9. Lightning Deng

Lightning Deng - A.K.A. Yang Ziangbin - is the head of a millennial Chinese Christian sect named Eastern Lightning, or the Church of Almighty God. The sect believe Lightning Deng to be God-returned-to-earth in female form. Founded in 1990, the group claim Yang Ziangbin was "born to an ordinary family in the northern pat of China" in order to lead mankind for a third, and ultimately final, time towards eternal redemption. She has even released several books, including one entitled The Word Appears in the Flesh, which she claims are written in the words of God Himself - and that anyone who refuses to accept her words will be punished once the world ends. Bizarrely, the group also refer to the Communist Party of China as the "Great Red Dragon" - believing it to be the same beast described in Revelation. The church is believed to be have been responsible for more than 40 riots in China, including one in which 23 students were stabbed at a school in Henan province and another when a child's eyes were pulled out because his family attempted to leave the sect.
