10 Most-Evil Nazis You’ve Never Even Heard Of
5. Reinhard Heydrich - The Mastermind Of The Holocaust And The "Final Solution" Who Hitler Labelled "The Main With The Iron Heart"
Despite his position as one of the most-important Nazi operators during the Second World War, Reinhard Heydrich (pictured above, left) is often not given the publicity his crimes deserve. When Adolf Hitler labels someone as "the man with the iron heart", then it is obvious that they were one of the most evil of all the Nazi operators. An SS General and chief of the Reich Main Security Office (which included the Gestapo, Kripo and SD), Heydrich also oversaw the areas of Bohemia and Moravia. A founding member of the Sicherheitsdiens, Heydrich set about neutralising Nazi enemies before they were even in power, and then helped to organise "Kristallnacht" (when Jews and Jewish properties were attacked throughout Germany and Austria in November 1938).
However, it was during World War II when he really came into his own. As well as oppressing Czech culture and eliminating any resistance in Bohemia and Moravia, he helped to establish the Einsatzgruppen who systematically murdered natives and Jews. Yet it was his chairmanship of the 1942 Wannsee Conference, when the "Final Solution" of the deportation and extermination of all Jews in German-occupied territories was finalised, that was his main crime.
This set in stone the policies which brought about the Holocaust, making Heydrich directly responsible. But Heydrich did not last past May 1942 - when he was murdered by a British-trained team of Czech soldiers who were sent to kill him in "Operation Anthropoid".
Hitler lamented the loss of one of his most-trusted lieutenants, who he knew would carry out his bidding no matter how extreme a policy was.
