10 Most Intriguing Unsolved Murders Of All Time

5. The Boy In The Box

The Boy In The Box or America's Unknown Child was the name given to an unidentified murder victim in 1975 aged between 4-6 years old. His body was found naked in a cardboard box in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania wrapped in a flannel blanket. Fingerprints were unable to provide his identity and it was thought that the boy came from a foster home approximately 1 1/2 miles from where his body was discovered. They believed that he belonged to the stepdaughter of the man who ran the foster home and that they disposed of the body so she wouldn't be seen as a single mother, as in those days this was frowned upon. However DNA tests proved that she wasn't the boy's mother and the case against them was closed. The identify of the boy and the killer remain unknown to this day and residents in Philadelphia frequently visit his grave marked "America's Unknown Child" leaving flowers and teddy bears.
