On November 22, 1963, the US mourned the death of President John F. Kennedy after he was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas, while still in office. The assassination of a world leader is a shocking news story in itself, but the murder of the first famous and really visual President of the United States sent the media into a frenzy to spread the information to the public as vividly as possible. Many newspapers around the US used visually-grabbing front pages, but the one printed by the Daily News is the most memorable. KENNEDY ASSASSINATED Johnson Sworn as President; Left-Wing Suspect Seized was the text used on the page. The words were accompanied by a picture of JFKs widow, Jacqueline Kennedy, being comforted by the new President Lyndon B. Johnson. Such harrowing words alongside the emotive picture truly captured the mood of a nation mourning the loss of its leader to an act of mindless barbarity.
