Ever wanted to be invisible? It's not quite to Hogwart's standards yet, but scientist's attempts at developing more and more impressive "invisibility cloaks' are definitely something to get excited about. The newest cloak gives the most effective shielding of an object from the human eye yet, created by an optical-illusion device that bends light around smaller objects, so it looks as if they've disappeared. Visible light wavelengths are a very small part of the electomagnetic spectrum that is visible to our eyes, so what scientists at the University of Austin have created is an ultra-thin cloak which uses electrical currents to make objects disappear over a broad light-frequency range. This makes it invisible from all angles, and researchers expect to have a full cloak prototype available in the next few years. No doubt the military will get their hands on them first, but could this be a stupendously fun (albeit, dangerous) Christmas present of the future?
