It probably won't surprise anyone to learn that a job which requires individuals to work on top of buildings (sometimes very tall ones) is among the world's most dangerous occupations.

In fact, Advisorsmith claims that roofing is among the top ten most dangerous jobs (9th to be exact) in the United States. This notion is supported by the fact that 91 individuals lost their lives in roofing related accidents in 2017 alone. The fatal injury rate per 100,000 workers that years was listed at 39.0.

Far and away the biggest threat to roofers is falling, which accounts for the overwhelming majority of deaths in the field. Electrocutions and transportation-related accidents are among the other causes for concern.

The US government cites inadequate fall protection as the main reason for fatal falls, which would seem like a fairly obvious conclusion to arrive at.
