10 People Who Survived Gruesome Accidents Against All The Odds
1. The Man Who Was Cut In Half
When a railway switchman, Truman Duncan, fell in front of a moving train he was pulled under it and trapped beneath the undercarriage, only to be run over by the steel wheels supporting the 20,000-pound train.
After the train came to a halt in the middle of Duncan's torso, he pulled out his mobile phone and rang himself an ambulance. On the phone, he is reported to have said "I think I'm cut in two [...] I guess I'm going into shock. Hurry up, ma'am, because I'm about to pass out." However, despite the massive blood loss, Duncan remained conscious throughout his ordeal, even managing to call his family as he waited for help to arrive, and then as the paramedics spent the next 45 minutes trying to extricate him from under the train.
His body was completely severed from just above his pelvis and he ended up losing a kidney too. Despite this, Truman Duncan has bounced back with super-human force. After 23 surgeries, he remains an active father and is completely independent, able to play football with his sons, drive and even swim.
