Evelyn Joy Ludlam's body was found after she disappeared in Georgia in 1981. Ellis Wayne Felker was arrested for her murder after it transpired that he had agreed to meet with Ludlam before she disappeared to discuss a potential job opportunity. When Evelyn was reported missing, Felker was kept under police surveillance.

Her body was later discovered, which the cause of death ruled as being asphyxiation. An autopsy revealed that Ludlam had been dead for 5 days when her body was found, but when police realised that this would eliminate Ellis Felker as a suspect, as he was under surveillance at that time, the report was changed to state that she had only been dead for 3 days.

Felker was convicted of her murder and was sentenced to death. After he was convicted, it was revealed that evidence was illegally withheld that may have included possible DNA evidence of the actual perpetrator and even a signed confession. Despite this revelation, Felker was executed on 15th November 1996.
