10 Problems Only People From Crook Will Understand

4. Being Located In A Valley

Crook is considered by many to be 'out in the sticks', nestled in a green and luscious valley sculpted by the last ice age. This has its distinct advantages; drive 5 minutes out of the centre and you can be surrounded by some of the most picturesque scenery and countryside you could ever wish to see. Unfortunately being in a valley also brings unavoidable problems in relation to isolated weather systems and the impact that has on transport. Not least, the issues caused by snow. Yep, because every conceivable way of getting out of Crook involves going up hill, the first sign of ice and snow can bring about a potential lockdown of the town. If you can carefully steer your car along the grooves carved by the X46 or any other given bus route then you may stand a chance of exiting via Wheatbottom and Billy Row, but that only presents further challenges upon coming downhill on your way home. And thinking about going up Church Bank, navigating around the Watergate, or attempting to exit the Barratts estate, then your efforts are near damn sure to be futile.
