Remember when everybody laughed at Bond's rebreather in Thunderball? Well they won't be laughing for much longer.

The Triton Oxygen Mask is a device designed by Korean student, Jeabyun Yeon that could allow people (spies, probably) to breath underwater without having to faff around with oxygen tanks whilst the bad guy gets away.

The idea is that the oxygen mask would work like gills, extracting oxygen from the surrounding water (that's the "O" bit of H2O, folks) via tiny holes on its surface. The holes on the "gills" are smaller than water molecules, allowing only the lone oxygen molecules to pass through.

The device is still in the design phase at the moment, as the amount of water that would need to pass through it in order for it to work is more than would do so at a normal swimming speed and, the faster a person swims, the more oxygen they require, creating something of a paradox. Perhaps someone should tell Jeabyun Yeon about DVPs.
