10 Real-World Filming Locations You Really Need To Visit
2. Naboo From Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (Lake Como, Italy)
Attack of the Clones is a truly terrible film, but no-one can deny it had some lovely scenery shots, especially when Anakin and Padme are having their love-in on Naboo. It might come as a surprise to you that the above image isn't a set or green screen but is a real location in Italy. Lake Como, in fact, which you've probably heard of or been to. In reality, Lake Como is a millionaires' playground populated by celebrities and wealthy people with a diverse group of people like George Clooney, Sylvester Stallone and Richard Branson all owning properties there. It was filmed at the Villa del Balbianello and was chosen because 20th Century Fox wanted George Lucas to do at least some location-filming to lower the production budgets slightly and to ensure there weren't too many visual effects, and we've got to say it really worked. It looks beautiful in a film created nearly entirely in a computer and really stands out as one of the best bits of the whole production. If you fancy visiting, it's not cheap and you'd probably balk at some of the prices (apparently nearing 15 euros for a bottle of water), but if you do visit you'll be able to do a double-whammy of film locations because it also appears in the James Bond film Casino Royale, and also in Ocean's Twelve where they used George Clooney's own house for shooting.
