"One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." ~ Gerald Seymour
Today, people like to remember Che Guevara as an idealist, a man who spent his life in pursuit of what he thought was right and in the end became a martyr for his cause. ... And? Che Guevara was a horrible person. Tracing his story reveals a gory path of amoral murder as he killed more people in the pursuit of his dream for ultimate communism than he did unite. He was in support of Russia starting a nuclear war with America and deeply mourned the death of Joseph Stalin. Even worse, he was decidedly racist, believing deeply that anyone with European lineage was supremely superior to everyone else. He revealed his true feelings in his personal diary when he wrote:
"The black is indolent and a dreamer; spending his meager wage on frivolity and drink."
Perhaps what happened to Cuba should be attributed more to Fidel's actions than Che's ideologies, but why should Che's legacy be celebrated? All he left us are cool t-shirts... and countless of South American terrorist groups whom he inspired.
