Stephenie Meyer is best known for her horrible Twilight series. For those lucky few who don't know what Twilight is about, you're about to be enlightened. The series starts off with plain-Jane Bella who falls in love with a century old vampire. The story spans four books and has sold millions and millions. The books make Meyer about 40 million a year. You may have heard a lot of criticism regarding Twilight and all of it is completely justified. One of the criticisms is that Meyer has a lot of Mormon messages hidden in her work. Which is true, but not nearly her biggest offense. Her books are just straight up terrible. Where to even start with this mess? The first of Meyers major crimes is when it comes to character building. They are flat and unlikable. Bella, for example, always talks about how plain and boring she is. We get it; move on. Secondly, she has two guys fighting over her a vampire and a werewolf. It is impossible what they see in her because as Bella says, she is plain and boring. Add into that she uses people and only cares about herself. For example, she is willing to leave her father again and never see him again; over a guy she meet a few months prior! She would disappear forever without a word to her father, who is the only really likable character in the series. The second crime she committed was making vampires suck. If you want to see how Vampire romance is done, look to Anne Rice; her vampire fiction at least had some bite. Meyer's vampires can move really fast but that is about the only interesting thing about them. Edward doesn't eat humans and doesn't burst into flames in the sun. He sparkles. It is horribly cheesy. One of the few times the vampires get to some action is at the climax at the end of first book...but nothing happens! Bella is knocked unconscious and wakes up AFTER the climatic battle! It's so anti-climatic that it comes across as lazy. Stephenie Meyer's bland writing, horrible characters and awful storytelling makes her one of the worst writers on the list. The fact that she is both directly and partially responsible for the success of two other writers on this list makes her the top Really Lousy Writers Who Inexplicably Sell Loads of Books.
