10 Reasons Having Certain Superpowers Would Actually Be Awful

2. Compromised Stability/Health (Size Alteration)

Being able to alter your size - particularly to a bigger state - seems like quite a positive prospect. Potentially, you could intimidate people you didn't like, increase your strength and see over things you wouldn't otherwise be able to see over (amongst other potential advantages), but it simply wouldn't work out like that in reality. As with people in real life who are unusually large - such as the late wrestling legend Andre the Giant - being larger than usual makes it very difficult for the body to maintain itself in the same way an average-sized body does and, as a result, there are complications. Vital organs have a tendency to fail and the legs and back suffer problems as they try to support such large frames - and that's when people are "only" 7 or 8 foot tall, so imagine the problems if you were a true "giant" of 20, 30, 40 or 50 foot. The human body simply isn't designed to work at those increased scales and it would soon give up. In fact, it probably wouldn't work at all from the start. Likewise, being able to make yourself small would have its problems too - such as making every day places, objects and creatures far more dangerous to you than they are when you are normal-sized.
