10 Reasons Why Being A Pale Girl Rocks

9. You're In Great Literary And Historical Company

Ah, the poets of yore. They knew the real truth of the matter. Pale skin has always been celebrated throughout history, with the Elizabethans really championing a face of milky perfection. Many a poem featured ladies with fair skin and hair, because this was the ideal of beauty and was what really rocked the Elizabethan man's socks (or breeches.)

To be tanned was an indication you were a poor smelly peasant. You worked the land and caught the sun, making you look even dirtier and smellier no doubt. Remind your tanned friends of this when they keep harping on about how dark their skin is looking after that exotic holiday.

Elizabeth I was the absolute beauty of her time with her white white skin. And what better role model than the Queen? Just ignore the fact that her make up was stuffed full of goodies such as lead and mercury, all very poisonous and potentially very deadly. Hey, at least you'll still look great when you're dead!

But you no longer need worry about the pitfalls of being pale in the olden days. You're in the 21st century, so you have all the legacy of being considered wealthy and beautiful, without the risk of popping your clogs as a result of your porcelain complexion. If you're lucky, a modern poet may even be inspired to write about you too.

8. Staying Forever Young

Unlike all those who worship the sun and the sun bed god, being and staying pale is pretty much guaranteeing you less wrinkled skin as you get older. We won't comment on what other €œbad for your skin habits€ (smoking, drinking...) you may indulge in to cancel out this advantage though...

Whilst your friends who bake under the rays may risk ending up looking like leathery old handbags by the time they're 50, you'll still be relatively unlined in comparison. You could pass for being 25. Well, maybe.

Experts do claim that what we think is just natural ageing is in fact sun damage. So why speed up the process and turn yourself into a prune way before your time? Ditching the natural or artificial suntan is the wisest thing you can do for your skin.

It goes without saying that your risk of developing skin cancer will be much lower if you haven't spent years in pursuit of a golden glow. Especially bearing in mind those who take up that pursuit more often than not end up sporting a rather painful shade called €œlobster burn€. Not attractive in anyone's book we're sure you'll agree.

I am a London based writer who enjoys nothing more than a quirky written assignment and a chance to air my views on every interesting topic under the sun (much to the chagrin of those around me no doubt.) My life would be nothing without: writing (of course), Supernatural, a glass or two of merlot and guinea pigs.
