10 Reasons Why The Lost City Of Atlantis EXISTS In West Africa
9. The Richat’s Formation Is Largely A Mystery
Only a few nomadic tribes in the region were aware of the Richat structure’s existence until it was first observed by astronauts aboard the Gemini spacecraft in the 1960s. Since then, it has become a useful landmark for astronauts in space.
One of the earlier hypotheses around the Richat’s formation was that it was an impact crater. However, after extensive field and laboratory testing, it was concluded that there was no evidence of an extraterrestrial impact, and it is now thought that its formation is a result of a combination of volcanic activity and tectonic plate movement.
The rocks in the region have been dated to be at least a hundred million years old, so the structure has been around for a long time, and has probably seen many early hominids, especially since the climate in the region was temperate for far longer than it has been dry and arid.
