10 Reasons Zombies Don't Make Sense

9. The Human Body Can't Survive Without Drinking Water Or Eating

Humans can survive for just three days without water, yet in a lot of media, zombies never drink water and can go for days just wandering, eating nothing. In The Walking Dead, heads can sit around, still alive, with no food. If illnesses meant that humans didn€™t have to eat or have water then doctors wouldn€™t worry about feeding tubes for coma patients or intravenous fluids for Ebola victims. Dehydration and starvation are serious conditions with devastating impacts. One would also think that decapitation has serious impacts, but apparently not on live television. Starvation starts 24 hours after the last meal consumed and causes the organs to shut down, including the brain. So a zombie would have to ensure that it's consuming a human at regular intervals. Vitamin deficiencies occur with starvation, which leads to anaemia, scurvy and beriberi. Ultimately, these conditions cause atrophy of the muscles, listlessness, mental confusion, apathy and incapacitation. Dehydration also causes similar issues, along with seizures and unconsciousness. So, even if a zombie wanted to eat he€™d be too exhausted to move or in a state of fits. Also, these problems make the body more apt to suffer from infections or even grow fungus on the oesophagus so that swallowing is painful. That€™s not helping a zombie to eat. Ultimately, they would die due to lack of water and food if they got stuck in the mud/lost their legs/lived in the Pitcairn Islands/were left for head. Except this zombie. He€™s staying hydrated.
