10 Secret Disneyland Areas You Probably Didn’t Know About

9. Walt’s Secret Apartment

While Disneyland California was being constructed, good old hands-on Mr.Disney wanted to keep an eye on the development of his pride and joy.

Walt had his very own apartment designed and built into the second story of the firehouse on Main Street, USA so he could watch his ‘baby’ develop - it became a little home away from home where he would go to wind down, work in peace or spend quality time with his wife.

The apartment was so secretive that there are only a handful of genuine photographs of the room. What is more impressive, is that after the park opened, Walt would often still use the the apartment during operating hours, no more than a few meters from the thousands of guests in the park.

The apartment is so small it did not even have a bedroom, instead being made up solely of an open dining-kitchenette area. The decor matches the 1950’s firehouse design full to the brim with antique stylings and even a fireman's pole.

Walt even had a lamp installed into the window to indicate to cast members when it was occupied, with the general public being non-the-wiser.
