10 Serial Killers Who Got Away With It

1. Nikolai Dzhumagaliev

Murders: 9 upwards

Dates active: 1979 – 1991

Most people, when they accidentally lose their teeth, would opt for the usual porcelain or plastic resin dentures to replace their now missing smiles. This was not the case for Nikolai Dzhumagaliev who, after getting into a fight as a youngster, selected the peculiar white metal option... which ended up helping him commit his crimes.

Nicknamed ‘Metal-Fang’, Nikolai was deemed a bit of a lady's man, having no trouble picking up women for casual... encounters. In 1977, he returned to his home town of Uzun-Agach, Kazakhstan, after a series of blue-collar jobs which took him to different countries. Not long after however, those ‘casual encounters’ came back to haunt him as he was diagnosed with syphilis and trichomoniasis... ouch.

This diagnosis spiralled Nikolai into a rage against all women, as he blamed them for his infections, which pushed him towards his gruesome crimes. After two years of planning, Nikolai struck his first victim in January 1979.

He watched and kidnapped a peasant lady with a knife near a mountain track, pulling her into the woods and out of sight. He then drank her blood, dissected her into pieces, popped her in his backpack, cooked her up, and ate her. He has also since admitted that the body of the woman took him a whole month to eat.

After this first incident, he spiralled into a killing spree with a taste for human flesh, butchering and eating six more women before nearly being caught for shooting a colleague of his while drunk. He was taken into custody, but later let go as this was deemed accidental, meaning his other gruesome crimes were still totally undetected.

Three more women were then murdered before he was caught in 1981, as he massacred one of his guests at a dinner party while the other visitors were just rooms away! The guests went looking for him after he had pulled one of them aside into another room for ‘a chat’, and they all fell upon the horrifying scene of the dismembered party-goer.

Nikolai was eventually arrested but, after being diagnosed with schizophrenia, he was taken to a closed mental hospital where he later escaped when being transferred to another in 1989. He was caught in 1991, but since 2015 he is again on the run, and his exact location currently remains a mystery.
