Ed Kemper is of course one of the most infamous serial killers of all time, best remembered for his imposing stature and keen intellect.

Between 1964 and 1973, Kemper killed 10 people (including his own mother and grandparents), typically picking on young female hitchhikers who he would kill, dismember and then defile for sexual gratification.

Kemper's first two kills occured at the mere age of 15, when on August 27, 1964, he shot and killed his grandparents, and was subsequently sent to a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane with a paranoid schizophrenic diagnosis.

Kemper was a model inmate and released in 1969, and it wasn't until May 1972 that he killed again, murdering eight women between then and April 1973, ending with the murder of his abusive mother and her best friend.

After fleeing to Pueblo, Colorado, he called the police and confessed to the latter two murders. The cops didn't take him seriously at first, however, requiring him to call back and speak with an officer he knew.

After being taken into custody, Kemper confessed to killing the six prior students also, and on November 8, 1973, was declared sane and received life imprisonment for all eight murders (due to California suspending the death penalty at the time).

Kemper is currently held at California Medical Facility and next eligible for parole in 2024, though has said to be content with his imprisonment.
